This delicious soup is "guaranteed to cure what ails you!" by the Lady Sintana, who was the Elder and Queen of the House of Ravenwood in Atlanta, Georgia, from whom I learned a lot more.
"Eclectic, schlemectic, I've got roots!" (onions, carrots, garlic, horseradish, beets, rutabagas, ...)
Ravenwood Chicken Soup
1 gallon water
1 whole chicken, with giblets
3 stalks of celery with leaves, chopped
1 large sweet onion, chopped
3-4 large cloves of garlic
3 large carrots, sliced
Bay leaves, oregano, thyme, sage,
rosemary, parsley, celery seed
1 Tbsp sugar
salt
Simmer all slowly. When meat falls off the bones, strain, debone chicken and add all meat cut in chinks and all veges back to skimmed broth.
