Jennie Wade

The ONLY recorded civilian death at Gettysburg was 20 year old Jennie Wade, who was standing in her sister's kitchen kneading dough when a skirmisher's bullet pierced two wooden doors and killed her instantly. Her body was carried to the cellar by Federal soldiers; she was later buried in a coffin built by Confederate troops for one of their officers.
