An auburn-haired woman about 40 years old, the popular Miss Keene managed and starred in her own stage company, and had erformed in "Our American Cousin" over 1000 times. Playing the title role was Harry Hawk, a principal comedian in the troupe. Upon learning that the Lincolns would be attending the April 14th performance, the excited cast prepared to entertain a full house on a tradtionally slow night for the theatre - Good Friday.
