Eliza Clinedinst Crim

Known to grateful VMI veterans as "Mother Crim", she opened her doors to the wounded and hungry alike in the wake of the fighting at New Market. Among those she comforted was a 15 year old cadet, who, though unscathed, seemed helpless after the ordeal of battle. "He wanted his bread spread with preserves" she recalled. "He sat down just like a little child to eat from Mother's hand."
