I am searching for any information on a poet named Lady Vernon for which my only aunt is named. Her sister, my mother, recently passed away and I am researching how they both got their names. My mother told me that her sister was named Dorothy Vernon Ford after the poet and she was named Ivy Gwendolin Ford after the Ivy Cottage, supposedly in Burslem where their father, John Ford, was born. If you are aware of any connection your family, I would love to hear from you as soon as possible.

Lovely photos! We will be adding your site to our "Favorite Links Page". Many of our local and national members use period dress as a means of drawing attention to the Civil War groups, heritage and "life". If you are interested in membership in the Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, visit the website above. There is a link on our Home Page to an online application at the National Auxiliary-SUVCW website. Do parades, honor veterans, honor ancestors, do bakesales, meet and greet activities, family-oriented, females aged 8 and up eligible to apply, dress in period costume--or not. Our members plan and conduct hundreds of activities, events and programs around the country year 'round. There's something for you, too! Come on, give Auxiliary-SUVCW a try.

I enjoyed the Civil War music, especially the version of the theme from Gettysburg. Every time I hear it, I can't help thinking of the men who sacrificed their lives in that war. Now that we are engaged in another war, a kind of war as unprecedented in our day as the Civil War was in its time, I feel myself much closer to the men of that time.

Okay, fine, I'll sign the guestbook! I'm doing this only because everytime I visit your site, there is that "please sign our guestbook" note at the bottom of each page and I'm starting to feel guilty. I'm not going to gush over how lovely your site is like your usually supposed to in a guestbook because I feel that the "everytime I visit your site" bit already implys that I like it. Only one complaint: on this form, you ask where I am from, but on the next page that changes to "state." I just learned that I am from the state of the Sierra Nevada foothills.

I have been book and web searching for days, looking for the identities of the 5 children of Otto I and Adelaide. Your family tree is the first place to list them. Thank you! p.s.--There are a lot of Pennsylvania Dutch (ie German) folks in this area. At Christmas many have Christmas Pigs in the branches of their Christmas trees. They ensure a prosperous New Year. I am wondering if this custom arose from pigs nesting in fir trees in their native Germany. Perhaps someone from Germany would know this.

Hi, I was out surfing the webrings when I ran across your site. I can't say enough wonderful things about it. You have some really great information on here. I have really enjoyed my time with you and have learned a lot. I use to live in Knoxville, and wish I had seen this site back then, re-enacting the civil war looks like it would be so much fun. I have book marked you and plan on returning again. Please stop by my site if you find the time.

You are rendering a great service to American History and the history of Music. Thanks ! P.S. I was looking for that plaintif song which was used for the theme song of the Documentary on the Civil War recently presented on Public TV. I was told that the name of the tune (played on a doleful fiddle) was "Oshkosh Farewell" Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
